Setup Guide

How to Set Up Manus for Your Tour Business

Manus is different from every other AI tool in this guide. It's not a chatbot — it's an autonomous agent. You describe what you want done, and Manus plans the steps, browses the web, writes code, analyses data, and delivers finished results. Think of it as hiring a capable digital assistant who works independently while you run tours.

Free tier available at manus.im (300 credits/day). Standard ($20/mo) unlocks 4,000 monthly credits. Extended ($200/mo) adds 40,000 credits for heavy use. Now part of Meta.

Where Manus shines

  • Autonomous execution — give a goal, get finished work
  • Builds complete websites and web apps for you
  • Deep research across multiple sources with citations
  • Data analysis — upload CSVs, get charts and insights
  • Creates presentation decks and visual designs
  • Browses the web in real time — fills forms, extracts data
  • Scheduled tasks — set recurring work to run automatically
  • Multi-platform — web, Slack, WhatsApp, Telegram

Where it hits a wall

  • Not a chatbot — different workflow than Claude or ChatGPT
  • Complex tasks can consume credits unpredictably
  • Long multi-step tasks occasionally lose track
  • Facts need checking — can hallucinate specific data
  • No persistent memory between tasks (unlike Claude Projects)
  • Learning curve — thinking in goals not prompts
  • Enterprise security still maturing
  • Best for project-based work, not quick Q&A
1

Choose your plan

Manus uses a credit-based system. Every task consumes credits depending on complexity — a simple question might use 50 credits, a deep research task 500–900. Here's what's available:

FREEmanus.im — no card needed

300 refresh credits per day. Enough to test 1–2 simple tasks daily. Good for seeing whether the agent approach works for you.

$20/MOStandard — daily driver

4,000 credits per month plus 300 daily refresh. Enough for regular research, website updates, and data analysis. Best starting point for most tour operators.

$40/MOCustomizable — flexible usage

8,000 credits per month with adjustable allocation. Good if your usage varies — heavy in planning season, lighter during peak operations.

$200/MOExtended — power user

40,000 credits per month. For operators running multiple businesses, building complex tools, or using Manus as a core part of daily operations. Includes data analytics on websites.

Recommendation: Start with the Standard plan at $20/month. It gives you enough credits to use Manus daily without worrying about running out. Annual billing saves 17%.

2

Understand the agent mindset

This is the biggest mental shift. With ChatGPT or Claude, you have a conversation — you prompt, it responds, you refine. With Manus, you describe a complete goal and let it work. Think of it as briefing a freelancer, not chatting with an assistant.

DON'T DO THIS

"Help me with my marketing"

"Write something about our tours"

"Can you look at our website?"

DO THIS INSTEAD

"Research the top 5 food tour operators in Barcelona. Compare their pricing, TripAdvisor ratings, and tour offerings. Create a comparison spreadsheet."

The briefing formula

What you want done + Who it's for + What format you want the output in + Any specific requirements. The more specific your brief, the better the result. Manus works best when it knows exactly what "done" looks like.

3

Use Deep Research for competitor intelligence

This is where Manus genuinely outperforms every other tool. It doesn't just search — it opens websites, reads pages, extracts data, compares information across sources, and delivers a structured report. For tour operators, this is like having a research analyst on staff.

Competitor analysis
Research the top 10 [TYPE] tour operators in [CITY/REGION]. For each one, find their pricing, tour duration, group size, TripAdvisor rating, and unique selling points. Create a comparison table and identify gaps in the market that my company could fill.
Market research
Research the current state of the [ACTIVITY TYPE] tourism market in [COUNTRY/REGION]. Find recent statistics on visitor numbers, spending trends, seasonal patterns, and emerging destinations. Summarise the key opportunities for a small tour operator.
Pricing intelligence
Find the current pricing for [TYPE] tours in [DESTINATION] across at least 15 operators. Include the tour name, duration, price, what's included, and booking platform. Create a spreadsheet sorted by price and identify where my tours at [YOUR PRICE] sit in the market.

Pro tip: Manus will deliver a finished document or spreadsheet you can download. Always fact-check specific prices and ratings — AI can hallucinate details. But the structure and coverage will save you hours of manual research.

4

Build websites and tools without coding

This is Manus's party trick. It can build and deploy complete websites — not templates, actual custom websites with your content, branding, and functionality. For tour operators who've been paying agencies thousands for basic websites, this changes the economics entirely.

Landing pages

Describe your tour, target audience, and key selling points. Manus builds a conversion-optimised landing page with your content, images, and calls to action.

Internal tools

Need a guide scheduling tool? A customer feedback dashboard? A pricing calculator? Describe what you need and Manus builds it as a web app.

Data dashboards

Upload your booking data and ask Manus to build an interactive dashboard showing trends, seasonal patterns, and revenue breakdowns.

Calculators & forms

Custom quote calculators, booking inquiry forms, group pricing tools — anything that would normally require a developer.

EXAMPLE BRIEF FOR A LANDING PAGE

Build a landing page for my sunset kayak tour in Dubrovnik. The tour is 2.5 hours, costs €65 per person, runs April–October, max 8 people per group. Key selling points: paddle through sea caves, watch sunset from the water, includes waterproof phone pouch and photos. Target audience: couples and small groups aged 25–45. Include a booking inquiry form, photo gallery section, FAQ, and testimonials section. Use warm Mediterranean colours.

Manus will build the complete site, deploy it, and give you a live URL. You can then ask it to make changes — "make the header image bigger", "add a section about what to bring", "change the colour scheme to blues".

5

Analyse your data

Most tour operators are sitting on valuable data they never analyse — booking spreadsheets, customer feedback, financial records. Manus can process this data, create visualisations, and surface insights you'd never find manually.

Booking analysis

I've uploaded our booking data for the last 12 months. Analyse it and tell me: which tours are most profitable per hour of guide time, what's our seasonal booking pattern, which booking channels deliver the highest-value customers, and what day of the week gets the most bookings. Create charts for each insight.

Review analysis

I've uploaded 200 TripAdvisor reviews for our company. Analyse the sentiment, identify the top 5 things guests love and the top 5 complaints. Find any patterns by tour type, season, or guide. Create a summary report with specific quotes as evidence.

Financial modelling

Using the attached cost data, build a financial model for our new [TOUR TYPE] tour. Include fixed costs, variable costs per guest, break-even analysis at different price points, and projected annual revenue at 60%, 75%, and 90% capacity. Create a spreadsheet I can adjust.

Key advantage: Manus doesn't just give you numbers — it creates downloadable files. Spreadsheets you can open in Excel, charts you can put in presentations, reports you can share with your team. No copy-pasting from a chat window.

6

Create presentations and marketing materials

Manus has built-in slide creation and design capabilities. For tour operators who need to pitch to hotels, DMOs, travel agents, or investors, this eliminates the "I'm not a designer" problem.

Sales decks
Create a 12-slide presentation for pitching our [TOUR TYPE] tours to hotel concierges in [DESTINATION]. Include our company story, tour portfolio, commission structure, booking process, guest testimonials, and contact details. Use professional design with our brand colours [COLOURS].
Operational documents
Create a comprehensive guide training manual for our [TOUR TYPE] tour. Include the route with timing for each stop, talking points for each location, safety procedures, guest management tips, wet weather alternatives, and emergency contacts. Format it as a professional document they can carry on their phone.
Marketing content
Create a complete marketing pack for our new [TOUR NAME] launching next month. Include: a one-page flyer, a 5-slide social media carousel script, an email announcement for our mailing list, and a press release. All should emphasise [KEY SELLING POINTS] and target [AUDIENCE].
7

Automate with scheduled tasks and browser automation

Manus can run tasks on a schedule and automate browser-based work. This is where it starts replacing actual staff hours — not the creative work, but the repetitive monitoring and data collection that eats your time.

Scheduled monitoring

Set Manus to check your competitors' pricing weekly and alert you to changes. Or monitor your TripAdvisor ranking daily and flag any new negative reviews.

Browser automation

Manus can navigate websites, fill forms, and extract data. Use it to check OTA listings, verify your tour descriptions are correct across platforms, or collect data from multiple booking sites.

Recurring reports

Schedule weekly or monthly reports — booking summaries, review analysis, competitor updates. Manus runs the task automatically and delivers the finished report.

Credit warning: Scheduled tasks consume credits each time they run. A weekly competitor check might use 300–500 credits per run. On the Standard plan (4,000 credits/month), that's one scheduled task running weekly plus daily ad-hoc work. Plan your automation budget.

Your weekly Manus workflow

Monday

Run competitor pricing check

Ask Manus to research current pricing across your top 5 competitors and flag any changes since last week.

Tuesday

Analyse last week's bookings

Upload your booking data and ask for a summary — which tours sold, which didn't, any patterns in booking lead times.

Wednesday

Create marketing content

Brief Manus on a specific piece — a blog post, social media pack, or email newsletter — with your brand voice and target audience.

Thursday

Research project

Use Deep Research for a strategic question — new market opportunities, partnership prospects, regulatory changes, or destination trends.

Friday

Build or improve a tool

Ask Manus to build something you need — a pricing calculator, a guide checklist, an FAQ page, or improvements to an existing website.

Each task takes 5–15 minutes to brief. Manus does the work while you run your business. On the Standard plan, this workflow uses roughly 2,500–3,500 credits per week.

Before every Manus task — the briefing checklist

  1. 1Is this a project task (research, build, analyse) or a quick question? If it's a quick question, use ChatGPT or Claude instead — don't burn Manus credits on simple Q&A.
  2. 2Have I described exactly what 'done' looks like? What format, what level of detail, what specific data points?
  3. 3Have I attached any files Manus needs — data, images, brand guidelines, examples of what I want?

If all three are yes, brief Manus and let it work.

Common mistakes to avoid

Using Manus like a chatbot.

The biggest mistake. If you're having a back-and-forth conversation with Manus, you're using it wrong. Give it a complete brief and let it execute. Save the conversations for Claude or ChatGPT.

Vague briefs that waste credits.

"Make me a website" will produce something generic. "Build a landing page for my sunset kayak tour in Dubrovnik targeting couples aged 25–45 with a booking form and FAQ section" will produce something you can actually use. Specificity saves credits.

Not checking the output.

Manus is autonomous, not infallible. It can hallucinate specific facts — competitor prices, statistics, dates. Always verify the key data points in any research report before acting on them.

Burning credits on simple tasks.

Asking Manus to write a single email or answer a quick question is like hiring a builder to hang a picture. Use ChatGPT or Claude for quick tasks. Save Manus for project-level work that involves multiple steps.

Forgetting to download your files.

Manus creates files — spreadsheets, documents, websites. Make sure you download and save them. Unlike Claude Projects, Manus doesn't maintain persistent storage between tasks.
